PICK THE RIGHT SURF SPOT & DAY

Choosing the right surf spot and the right day with the right conditionals can mean the difference between getting battered around by the waves or having the best surfing experience yet.

FIND THE RIGHT SURF SPOT

For a beginner friendly surf spot, ask at the local surf shop and look for a sandy bottom and relatively quiet area. Check the weather on the day because conditions can make your beginner spot into a dangerous surf spot.

Keep clear of any difficult features such as reef and point breaks, you want somewhere with easy slow waves so that you don’t spend the whole session getting beaten up by the waves. Making sure you get the right info and check the conditions can ensure that your session is a good one.

PICK THE RIGHT DAY TO SURF

The ocean is pretty unpredictable and every day can have differing conditions. This can make the different between having an awesome session or a punishing and potentially dangerous one.

Rip currents can become more severe with bigger swells, on some days it’s worth waiting till the next to see if things have improved. The priority is to be safe when learn to surf so you need to make sure that the conditions are good and you’ll enjoy learning. Check with local surf shops for advice and surf reports.
